SANTIAGO. - UDI Senator Víctor Pérez has demanded that the government establish “a serious plan with defined dates to offer a permanent solution for public transportation in the capital and an end to Transantiago”.
The member of Parliament expressed that “the decision to use only 1% of the 2% constitutional fund reserved for public calamities is not sufficient if there is no clear and concrete plan to put an end to the worst disaster the Concertación has caused for the nation”.
The UDI secretary general stated that “as long as the government fails to present a plan that will effectively resolve the capital city´s transportation problems, it will continue to squander money and pass the bill along to Chilean citizens”.
Pérez reminded the public that “in 2008 the system reported a loss of 800 million dollars, which are resources that were paid using taxes from all Chilean citizens and, while that was happening, there were and still are citizens in the regions outside of Santiago paying high fares for public transportation without any kind of aid from the government”.
The senator also reminded the Minister of Transportation that “in the middle of this year” he had “promised to deliver a complete proposal to resolve the public transport problem and up until now there has been nothing but a few cosmetic changes”.
