SANTIAGO. -  The National Commission of Transit Safety (CONASET) announced a sad figure this morning while indicated that 30 people had lost their lives in traffic accidents during New Year’s celebrations this year.

According to Radio ADN, the Executive Secretary of CONASET, Emilio Oñate, stated that the statistic is alarming considering the numerous prevention campaigns that have been launched to reduce the number of fatal accident victims.

“The total number of deceased individuals during the first days of the new year is 30 people; the figure is worrisome despite the fact that it is considerably lower than the number reported for the same period last year, when the toll reached 41”, stated Oñate.

Nevertheless, the official stressed that the decrease in fatal accident victims does not leave the public at ease and added that “we are not pleased with the figure; we want all of the statistics to drop and to keep dropping with regards to fatalities”.
