Copper rises for fifth consecutive trading session

The red metal registered a gain of 1.76%, taking it to US$ 1.53 per pound.

LONDON.- Copper closed with its fifth consecutive gain today at the London Metal Exchange (LME) after trading for US $1.53791 per pound, compared to US $1.51137 on Tuesday and US$ 1.40682 on Monday.


As a result, the monthly and yearly average climbed to US$ 1.46227.


Today's value is the highest for the red metal since December 3rd of 2008, when it traded for US$ 1.55265.


Meanwhile, the future 3-month price quote ended at US$ 1.55764 per pound, up 1.90% from Tuesday (US$ 1.52861).


At the LME, stocks increased by 7,825 metric tons to 351,325. So far this year, copper has registered an accumulated increase of 11,550 MT (+3.40%).
