SANTIAGO.- Chancellor Alejandro Foxley expressed his regrets regarding the Israeli attack on the UN aid building located in the City of Gaza and has called for a prompt cease-fire.
“Obviously, these acts will not be tolerated by the international community and there needs to be more pressure for both sides to sit down at a table and negotiate”, he stated.
Foxley stated that “the situation in Gaza has been unacceptable for several days”, and said that it is “absolutely necessary” for Chile to support the stance of the United Nations Security Council with regards to reaching an agreement that , “will allow some room for rational conversation about a solution that really addresses the Palestinian problem and the integrity of Israeli territory”.
The minister denied that the government is considering breaking off diplomatic relations with Israel as Bolivia did when it announced that it would present an international charge of genocide against Israeli President Shimon Peres.
