SANTIAGO. - While dodging statements made by RN Deputy Karla Rubilar accusing him of having leaked the names of the allegedly falsely reported missing political prisoners that she announced, Government spokesperson Francisco Vidal acknowledged today that he did in fact give the information to the Association for Relatives of Missing Political Prisoners (AFDD), but argued that it was his obligation to do so.
”I had never argued that, but…when I heard again yesterday that the problem is that I leaked the information…I did not leak any information; I told the organization, which is my obligation”, Vidal emphatically stated.
During an interview with Radio ADN, Vidal also asserted that the deputy’s argument distorts “essential values”, since, in his opinion releasing the names was what needed to be done in order to offer some peace and calm for the relatives of missing prisoners.
Vidal explained that his political duty is to interact with groups of military regime victims, especially the Association for Relatives of Missing Political Prisoners.
“Deputy Rubilar did not release secret information, she arrived at La Moneda with a list, and while she did not state the names, she said that there were three names and that there were additional cases. What happens to the relatives of missing political prisoners in Chile if we keep these names secret? Is it my father? Is it my mother? Is it my grandson? And meanwhile the investigation continues?” he posed.
