SANTIAGO. -  Of the three fires in the Province of Concepción (in the Bío Bío Region), two are reportedly  still burning according to the governor Eric Aedo, who has issued a call to report any information that may lead authorities to those responsible for the blazes.

“Of the three fires, only two remain active.  The one that was in the Parque Pedro de los Ríos Zañarty in Hualpén was controlled on Thursday”, the official told Radio Cooperativa.

Nevertheless, the blazes in Chiguayante, which have entered the Longuén Nature Reserve 15 kilometers from downtown Concepción and the El Manzano sector have yet to cease.

“In Chiguayante residents are alarmed since the fire has come within approximately 200-300 meters from homes, prompting a Retirement Home to be evacuated due to heavy smoke”, stated Aedo.

Authorities and fire-fighters believe that the Chiguayante fire may have been caused intentionally, since according to the governor, all evidence indicates that someone “insane” intentionally started a massive fire.
