SANTIAGO. -  In light of the upcoming proceedings that may lead to an unfavorable ruling against the former Commander in Chief of the Air Force, Ramón Vega, due to the alleged payment of illegal commissions for the purchase of 25 Belgian Mirage planes in 1994, the spokesperson for the government, Francisco Vidal, has asked that the behavior of a select few not compromise the prestige of the Institutions themselves.

“In the event that the courts rule against and sentence these people (…), the government knows that the behavior of individuals should not reflect on the prestige of the Institutions”, stated Vidal.

The minister pointed out that the Air Force is a very prestigious Institution and indicated that in the case of such proceedings, “the government asks for the public opinion to separate the potentially unethical behaviors of individual officials from the exemplary behavior of the Air Force as an Institution”.
