SANTIAGO. - The Undersecretary of National Police, Javiera Blanco, has acknowledged that there is a lack of police officials in the municipality of Arauco and has promised to adopt short-term measures to address the problem.
The information was given by Senator Víctor Pérez who, along with the mayor of the municipality, Mauricio Alarcón, was interviewed by undersecretary in order to propose the public security requirements that the municipality will require from the Province of Arauco.
Senator Pérez explained the promises made by Javiera Blanco. The first is that the uniformed law enforcement force in the area be increased with officials that will graduate from the Training Unit in April. There are currently only 50 officers in the municipality - 30 fewer than there were 4 years ago, when the number reached 80.
The senator also pointed out the promise made by the Undersecretary to reassume a previous pledge made by the Ministry of the Interior to install security cameras in the municipality of Arauco.
