SANTIAGO. - Early this morning, a group of three to four individuals reportedly stole $40 million pesos worth of merchandise from the “Mery-Satt” jewelry store, located in the “Pueblito del Inglés” shopping center next to the Irene Frei roundabout in Vitacura.
According to police, the incident took place at 3 AM this morning, when the suspects arrived at the scene in a vehicle with special tools such as crowbars, hammers and an axe to destroy the front window panes and security equipment protecting the exclusive store.
One of the store security guards indicated that the individuals entered the business without masks, but later returned to the vehicle to put on ski-masks after realizing that the store possessed security cameras.
Then, in less than 5 minutes, the group destroyed the windows to gain entrance and steal all of the exclusive German and Italian-brand watches, appraised at some $40 million pesos.
Public Prosecutor Ignacio Pinto arrived at the scene, dispatching OS-9 police officers and PDI agents to investigate the heist.
