Woman dies after falling on tracks at Las Rejas subway station on Line 1

SANTIAGO.- At approximately 9:27 a.m. this morning, an unidentified woman was killed instantly after she fell onto the subway tracks at the Las Rejas station on Line 1.  Police officers and fire-fighters arrived at the scene to recover the body.

Subway service was partially halted until 10:07 a.m. between the Estación Central and San Pablo stations.

Some subway users waited behind the station doors for service to resume, while others decided to abandon the station.

According to an announcement made by Metro de Santiago, service along Line 1 of the subway is has currently been “completely re-established and is working normally”. 

Preliminary reports have been unable to confirm whether the incident was an accident or a suicide.
