Young woman dies after falling from apartment of Gary Medel

SANTIAGO.- A confusing accident took place early this morning at the apartment of Universidad Católica soccer player Gary Medel, when a young woman identified as 18 year-old Catalina Reyes Morales fell from the ninth floor of the building where the Chilean national team player lives in the municipality of Huechuraba.

According to preliminary reports, Medel was preparing pizzas with three men and two women when, under conditions that have yet to be clarified, Catalina Reyes fell from the apartment balcony and was killed instantly after landing in the parking lot.

"The building's concierge proceeded to call police and inform them that a young woman had fallen and died on impact", Capitan Sandra Vargas of the North police station told Radio Cooperativa.

According to statements made by guests at the apartment, the player was in one of the bedrooms with one of the women when the accident occurred and was unaware of what took place on the balcony.

Meanwhile, neighbors have said that at no time did they hear any high-volume music or disruptive sounds coming from the player's apartment.
