SANTIAGO.- While Gonzalo Cruzat's heartbeat becomes heavier by the day, that of his young son Felipe, who is currently awaiting a donor, is slowly stopping. The boy has been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital Clínico de la Universidad Católica for 22 days and has still not received the transplant organ that could save his life.
"It must be incredibly hard to make the decision to donate the organs of a relative. I just ask people to put themselves in our position, what would happen if one of their children were waiting for a donation in order to survive", Gustalo Cruzat expressed emotionally to Radio Cooperativa.
Felipe's father pleaded for generosity on the part of people who are in the unfortunate situation of being able to donate an organ, stating, "think about Felipe and that fact that you can give life to an 11 year-old boy".
Meanwhile, the paediatric cardiologist at the hospital, Doctor Francisco Garay, explained that in addition to the requirements that accompany any kind of transplant, the heart that Felipe receives must come from a person weighing between 25 and 55 kilograms.
