SANTIAGO.– A shocking scene was witnessed this morning at a building in downtown Santiago after a man, identified as Gabriel Alfonso Colipi Ramos, threw himself from the eleventh floor after announcing his decision for an hour and a half.

Just after 7:00 A.M. the man appeared at the window of his apartment, located at 360 Monjitas, warning that he was going to commit suicide and divulging in screams that he was doing so because he had been notified that he was HIV-positive.

A GOPE (Special Police Operative Group) team arrived on the scene, but once inside the apartment they were unable to get the man to come down or engage him in dialogue.

Firefighters were also on the scene, but were unable to carry out a rescue operation because there was no place on the building to mount a protective net.
