SANTIAGO.– A detective ended up with a stab wound after intervening in the burglary of a home in his neighborhood, in the Municipality of Cerrillos in the western sector of the capital city.
The victim has been identified as Sergio Zapata Arriagada, an inspector of the Anti-narcotics Brigade of the Police Investigative Unit (PDI). As he arrived home on the street of Aeropuerto, he noticed that four individuals were trying to break-in to the home of one of his neighbors.
According to Radio Cooperativa, the official was stabbed in the vicinity of his left ear.
As the perpetrators sped off, Zapata Arriagada fired two shots with his service weapon, hitting one of the burglars and one of the tires of the vehicle.
The car was found many hours later with blood stains, leading police to believe that one of the subjects was critically wounded by the gunshot.
Inspector Zapata Arriagada was taken to a medical facility and his diagnosis has yet to be released.
