SANTIAGO.– Insisting that, from his perspective, President Michelle Bachelet's visit to Cuba was simply a "personal whim" of the Government, the Alianza candidate, Sebastián Piñera, asserted that the visit only caused losses for Chile, referring to the controversy caused by an article written by Fidel Castro in which he backs the maritime claims of Bolivia.

In an interview with Radio ADN, Piñera stated that with the President's meeting with the former Cuban president, "the only thing Chile accomplished was a loss of its position and a step backwards, and it was something that we all could have anticipated".

At the outset of his tour of southern Chile, which will take him to 50 different localities over the next 15 days, Piñera maintained that in terms of international policy, what is important is to put the interests of the country before those of the current administration, as he accuses the Concertación of having failed to do.

Piñera indicated that "international policy has to be a policy of the State. Sometimes the current administration forgets this and follows its personal whims, taking the path of its liking that ends up jeopardizing Chile, as was the case, in my opinion, with this trip to Cuba, which just caused problems in the end".
