SANTIAGO.- The main newspapers of Havana displayed on their front covers today new photos of President Michelle Bachelet with former Cuban ruler Fidel Castro, five days after the inciting of a controversy over his public support of Bolivia's claim to a corridor of land to the Pacific Ocean.
The "Granma" and "Juventud Rebelde" dailies printed four photographs in which both leaders are standing upright, posing with smiles beside one another.
Hours after receiving Bachelet's visit last Thursday, Castro released an article in which he affirms that Chile "snatched from Bolivia" more than a decade ago "the maritime coast that gave them ample access to the Pacific Ocean". The statement provoked protests from both the current administration and the opposition parties.
