SANTIAGO.- Government Spokesperson Francisco Vidal clarified today that President Michelle Bachelet will remain at her summer home in Caburga, where she intends to closely follow any developments in the health of Ema Velasco Saavedra, daughter of Finance Minister Andrés Velasco and TVN journalist Consuelo Saavedra, who suffered immersion asphyxia yesterday.
"She is going to remain in her summer home. She spoke with Minister Velasco last night and also had a conversation with the Medical Director of the Clinic, as a pediatric colleague", indicated Vidal.
In a pained tone and with a notably sad expression, Vidal stated that although any accident of this character is lamentable, "the impact is stronger when one is personally acquainted with those affected" and added that during the last few hours many authorities have gone to the clinic where the child is hospitalized. She is currently in a coma that was induced in order to avoid possible side effects as a result of the lack of oxygen that affected her brain.
Vidal has called on believers to pray for Ema's health, and for "those men and women who wish well, to help. It is time to join together and hope for a positive result".
