SANTIAGO.- A route 108 Transantiago bus belonging to the Alsacia company caught fire this morning at the intersection of Pedro Aguirre Cerda and Avenida Departamental.

According to preliminary information, the vehicle may have burst into flames due to an electrical malfunction.

The driver of the bus, identified as Abelardo Vargas, said that he noticed the fire after seeing smoke coming from the engine. According to Vargas, he then exited the vehicle and asked the 50 passengers to immediately get off of the bus.

Thanks to his quick reaction, none of the passengers were injured.

Once the passengers were off of the bus, Vargas used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, which had spread over almost 60% of the bus.
