Ema Velasco Saavedra is awake and communicating verbally

SANTIAGO.- The Minister of Finance, Andrés Velasco, and his wife, TVN reporter Consuelo Saavedra, are breathing easier every day now that their little daughter Ema seams to be experiencing positive changes in her health condition after falling into a pool and nearly drowning last Tuesday in Zapallar.

According to the latest medical report issued by Clínica Las Condes, the child is awake and communicating verbally now that she has been placed under minimal sedation.

"The patient has experienced positive developments. The amount of lung damage has significantly decreased, allowing her to be removed from the mechanical respirator yesterday", stated the medical report.

The note also indicated that the little girl is now breathing spontaneously and has a lower oxygen requirement.

According to the short update, doctors are currently evaluating the possibility of moving the child to the Intermediate Care Unit (UCI) of the medical facility.
