SANTIAGO.- Little by little Minister of Finance Andrés Velasco and his wife, TVN reporter Consuelo Saavedra, are beginning to resume everyday activities following the accident suffered by their little daughter Ema, who nearly drowned to death after falling into a pool in Zapallar.

According to Radio Cooperativa, the Minister of Economy, Hugo Lavados, stated that Velasco is doing "extraordinarily" well and said that he had "gone out for a run this morning, which is a great sign".

The minister assured that yesterday afternoon Ema was not only accompanied by her parents, but also her older sister, Rosa, who remained by her side for several hours.

According to the latest medical report released yesterday, the child has been showing signs of improvement. The little girl was removed from a mechanical respirator after a significant decrease in the amount of damaged lung tissue and was brought down to only a minimal level of sedation.

The Clínica Las Condes medical center, where the little girl has been hospitalized, has said that it will not be releasing another medical report today.
