SANTIAGO.- While performing routine maintenance procedures this morning, two Aguas Andinas employees reportedly found the lifeless body of a man in the Mapocho River.

According to Radio Cooperativa, the discovery was made two kilometers west of the Calle Petersen Bridge, near Costanera Sur highway in the Municipality of Cerro Navia.

The Bureau of Police Investigations (PDI) is working to determine whether or not the body is that of a man who allegedly jumped into the river early yesterday morning after robbing a woman.

While referring to the matter, PDI Homicide Investigator Rodrigo Cisternas stated that an investigation is being carried out to reveal the identity of the man, who was found without any type of identification.

"We are cross-checking information with both the Public Prosecutor's Office and National Police to find out whether the body is linked to the case of a suspect that may have committed a crime near the Pío Nono Bridge", stated Inspector Cisternas.

Furthermore, the investigator indicated that the man's cause of death "will be determined later by the Legal Medical (Institute)". Nevertheless, the official asserted that the body found in the river "does not display injuries attributed to a third party".
