LAS CRUCES.- Police have reportedly prevented a single burglar from robbing the home of poet Nicanor Parra in the coastal town of Las Cruces, in the Fifth Region.

The suspect was caught by the National Literature Prize winner while trying to enter the housekeeper's bedroom. Fortunately, a police car was performing a routine patrol of the area at just that moment, allowing law enforcement officers to arrive at the scene in a matter of seconds.

According to the newspaper "El Líder", the thief escaped towards a back patio of the property, where he was finally apprehended by police as he was getting ready to climb the gate and flee the residence of the 94 year-old "anti-poet".

The burglar was identified as 30 year-old David Oyarzún Bravo of La Pintana, who reportedly possesses a criminal record for similar offenses, as well police reports for crimes committed during February of this year in the coastal town of El Tabo.
