SANTIAGO.- PRI Deputy Carlos Olivares has reiterated his statements criticizing the stance taken by the presidential candidate for the DC, PS and PPD, Eduardo Frei, who said he was open to discussing the matter of therapeutic abortion.
According to Olivares, the DC senator "is only doing this to try and appeal to a group of people that are in favor of therapeutic abortion and has so far offered no personal standing on the matter, to the point of contradicting many of the members of his party".
Olivares, who is a member of the so-called "Bancada Por la Vida" ("Pro-Life Board") has said that "Frei is contradictory and opaque, which does not leave him in good standing with the Christian Democrats and he only wants to gain political advantage".
"Beliefs cannot be hidden or changed for a handful of votes, especially when the respect for life is at hand", stated Olivares.
