SANTIAGO.- After arriving this morning at the Ñuñoa Public Prosecutor's Office, María del Pilar Pérez López, known as "La Quintrala", went back on her word and decided not to issue a statement to public prosecutors Vinko Fodich and Carlos Fajardo, who are investigating the three murders she has been charged with.
The woman's decision was communicated by her attorney, Cristián Bouchette, who argued that the decision was made due to the fact that a police officer was present in the room where the interrogation was to occur.
"Our client has decided to remain silent, as long as a police officer is present, she has decided to resort to her right to remain silent (…) and in the case that third parties not be privy to these statements, she has decided to remain silent with the understanding that the statements should be made only in the presence of the public prosecutor", stated the attorney.
With regards to the presence of the police officer, Bouchette stated that the situation reflects a decision made by the Public Prosecutor's Office, indicating that he hopes at least one of the public prosecutors will address the incident.
