SANTIAGO.- Management of the Hospital de Talca announced today that 46 year-old patient Ana María Velasco Díaz, who has been declared brain dead at the hospital, will not be the heart donor for 11 year-old Felipe Cruzat, who has been waiting 66 days for the implant.

The news comes as a result of the fact that the siblings of the patient (whose blood type, weight and height were compatible with Felipe) decided to decline since the woman had expressed while alive that she did not want to donate her organs.

The woman, who was a temporary worker, was declared brain dead after being run over by a freight truck. Although the woman's family members had said they did not wish to donate her organs, the possibility was not completely ruled out since they decided to think about it and give a definitive decision the next day, which was negative.

This morning, the father of Felipe, Gonzalo Cruzat, called on the public to respect the family's decision since, in his opinion "Felipe needs to receive a heart out of love and not out of pressure".
