THE HAGUE.- This morning, Peruvian ambassador Allan Wagner, along with Peruvian co-official, Ambassador Jorge Chávez, and Foreign Affairs Minister Marisol Agüero presented a report –in print and digital versions- detailing the legal maritime border dispute with Chile.

According to the Peruvian newspaper "El Comercio", the document contains a detailed explanation of the elements being "lawfully and rightfully" argued by Peru and concludes with "requests for the Court to protect and enforce Peru’s sovereignty over the maritime territory".

Peru has asked the Court to determine the maritime border between the two countries based on international principles and norms.

According to "El Comercio", Peruvian Chancellor José Antonio García Belaúnde stated that the Court was asked to recognize the exclusive sovereign rights the nation has over the ocean territory, which reaches 200 miles past the Chilean border.

The morning paper suggests that García Belaúnde does not believe Chile will gain a favorable ruling over Peru, indicating that no "serious" country resorts to such measures.
