Number of unemployment insurance beneficiaries up by 40% in January

Of the total reported, 53.2% are workers with indefinite contracts.

SANTIAGO.- The Pension Fund Supervisor announced today that in January of this year, 130,803 people received unemployment insurance benefits. The number represents an increase of 37.8% when compared to the same month last year.


Of the total reported, 53.2% were workers with indefinite contracts and 33.9% of the beneficiaries were women.


The average unemployment insurance amount for January was $ 119,292 pesos, with $117,126 pesos being offered in the case of workers who discontinued work with a short-term or determined project or service contract, and $ 121.198 being distributed to individuals with an indefinite contract.


Meanwhile, 90,873 new beneficiaries were paid in January, which is 31.5% higher when compared to the figure for the same month last year. The number of beneficiaries paid over the last 12 months reached 957,490 people, bringing the number of individuals that have received benefits since the system was created to 3,870,746.
