SANTIAGO.- The Chilean short film "Aquel lugar llamado Cine Plaza" by young director Ricardo Núñez will be part of the Short Film Corner section of the 2009 prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
The 14-minute long film tells the story of the last days of a small-town movie theater and the efforts of Benjamín, a young movie fanatic, to convince the theater to hold one last show at the location before it is closed.
Ñúñez created the film in HD format over the summer in Talagante along with students and alumni of the University of UNIACC.
"We worked very hard and we obtained incredible results thanks to the tremendous amount of effort put forth by all of those involved in this creative undertaking. We filmed and then produced the film, working non-stop throughout the summer (...) I think that the film's participation in Cannes is a reflection of the responsible dedication and effort put forth by the entire group", stated Ñúñez.
Now, in an attempt to finance their trip to Cannes, the group of filmmakers plans to request aid from the government and private entities.
