Nine injured in Transantiago bus crash in La Pintana

Amongst the injured is a woman who is 25 weeks pregnant and is currently in critical condition.

SANTIAGO.– Nine people were wounded as a result of a violent collision between a Transantiago bus and two vehicles in the municipality of La Pintana.


The incident took place at 7:30 AM, when the route G27 bus driven by Fernando Vásquez collided, for reasons that are still unknown, into a utility truck and another private automobile.


Captain Mauricio Mollo of the 41st commissary of La Pintana, explained that the accident took place when the utility truck was rear-ended by the other vehicle, driven by Luis Torres, causing it to spin out into the middle of the street where the bus then crashed into it.


As a result, according to the Lieutentant of the First Firefighting Unit of  La Granja, Mauricio Herrera, nine people were injured, seven of whom are severely wounded, and two of whom are in critical condition.


A woman identified as Margarita de la Cruz Torres Palma was seated in the first row of the Transantiago bus is 25 weeks pregnant, and René Ibáñez Gálvez lost consciousness and reportedly suffered head trauma. Both were taken to the Hospital Barros Luco.
