Worker burned in Hotel Militar explosion dies

SANTIAGO.- As a result of the severe burn wounds, 28 year-old Juan Santander Figueroa was pronounced dead today. The young man was one of the workers injured in a gas explosion that occurred Sunday at the Hotel Militar in the municipality of Providencia.

The information was released by Doctor Mario Enríquez, who is the Assistant Head Physician at the Posta Central medical facility, where the man had been hospitalized with burns covering over close to 98% of his body.

"The patient passed away due to multiple organ failure. He arrived here with extreme burns, respiratory injuries, and significant trauma from the gas explosion", stated the doctor.

60 year-old Julio Egoaguirre, another worker injured in the accident, is also hospitalized at the medical center with burns coveromg approximately 90% of his body. Egoaguirre is listed in critical condition and is currently connected to a mechanical respirator.

Meanwhile, 14 year-old Gunter Orellana Martínez, who was accompanying his father at work when the explosion occurred, is being treated at Hospital Luis Calvo Mackenna.
