SANTIAGO.- Colo Colo is fast approaching its lowest point since the short-term tournaments were created in Chile.
The squad, coached by Marcelo Barticciotto, has not attained a victory over the course of its last five matches, causing the team to free-fall on the positions table. The latest drop took place this weekend after playing a home game against Iquique.
Now, not only is the team out of the playoffs, they are also only two points away from dropping out of the tournament.
Colo Colo presently has 11 points – two more than Palestino, which may be the last team to face a direct elimination at this point in the tournament. Meanwhile, the Rangers are in last place with seven points.
Furthermore, thanks to a difference in goals, Colo Colo is currently barely saving itself from possibly having to play a promotional tournament to keep from dropping into the lower leagues.
The scoreboard however is so close that with even one win, Barticiotto's players could make it into the playoffs.
The team has an upcoming match against Everton at the Monumental Stadium that could change the situation completely. The problem is that since the games have already been played, there is no assurance that four-time champ Colo Colo will harness a win this time in Macul.
