SANTIAGO.- A 28 year-old man managed to escape with his life after crashing his car into a tree and later a road sign. Following the collision, the vehicle caught fire.

According to preliminary reports, Juan Muñoz Vásquez was speeding down Bilbao when he lost control of his vehicle. After the crash, the car caught fire and the man had to be rescued from the vehicle by employees belonging to a nearby gas station.

Radio Cooperativa reported that a newspaper distribution worker passing through the area that witnessed the event has said that the man "was angry, since he didn't understand what was going on, he opened the door himself and we were able to get him out".

Although Muñoz had been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, he did suffer minor injuries caused by the activation of the vehicle's emergency airbag.

Juan Muñoz Vásquez was taken to the Hospital del Salvador to be thoroughly examined.
