Edmundo Pérez Yoma may return to Ministry of Interior tomorrow

The politician underwent a kidney transplant on March 24th of this year after spending several months on the waiting list.

SANTIAGO.- Minister of Interior Patricio Rosende has said that it is very likely that Edmundo Pérez Yoma will resume his position tomorrow as the head of the ministry, following a rapid recovery from the kidney transplant he underwent on March 30th of this year.


During an interview with Radio ADN, Rosende stated that he expects Pérez Yoma "will return tomorrow to resume his labors, in fact I am going to Talca today for a series of meetings. I expect Minister Pérez Yoma to be back in his office by tomorrow".


The Minister of Interior underwent a transplant after a compatible donor was found at the end of March. Pérez Yoma had been on the national waiting list for a kidney since August of 2008.


Following the successful surgery performed at the Hospital Clínico de la Universidad Católica on March 24th of this year, the official was discharged seven days later to and sent to rest at his home.


During his time on medical leave, the minister kept abreast of national affairs and was in constant contact with his closest advisors.
