SANTIAGO.- Minister of Interior Edmundo Pérez Yoma was on the verge of tears as he publicly expressed his appreciation for the outpour of support he received during his stay at the Hospital Clínico of the Universidad Católica. The minister also expressed a special thanks to the family of the person that donated the kidney that allowed him to resume his labors today.

"I want to make it very clear that I never asked for any kind of privileged treatment, nor do I believe that I was given any", Pérez Yoma stressed upon his return to La Moneda.

"I scrupulously followed the instructions given to me by my doctor and the medical team at the Universidad Católica. It is not my place to comment on any debate that may have arisen with regards to this", continued the minister.

Three weeks after having received a transplant, the noticeably thinner cabinet leader stated that he was "just days from dialysis" due to his kidney complications. "I was incredibly lucky", he added.

Finally, the state official explained that he will only work a half-day today, but will resume his regular schedule as of tomorrow.
