SANTIAGO.- After the head of the Anti-Robbery Brigade in Talca and three other detectives where dismissed from the Bureau of Police Investigations for having forged judicial documents, the president of the Supreme Court, Urbano Marín, stated that it is not unusual for this type of situation to occur within the police force, as well as within the judicial system.
The head of the high court asserted that "it is not unusual for suspects, especially in cases of drug trafficking, to try to take advantage of their natural enemies, which are the police and the courts", reported Radio Cooperativa.
The magistrate added that "that is why we have had to investigate some cases, we are still investigating and we will continue to do so".
Marín stressed that both institutions are more exposed to such conditions as a result of the work that they do fighting crime and drug trafficking and emphasized the importance of systems to control and investigate responsibility in such matters.
"There has always been corruption to some degree in every organization, but what we need to do is establish the measures and checks necessary to try to prevent this from occurring", Marín added.
