SANTIAGO.- Party leader Joaquín Lavín has called on the presidential candidate for the Alianza, Sebastián Piñera, to stay out of the argument over parliamentary positions in order to avoid tarnishing his campaign. Lavín was referring to the recent decision made by the National Renovation (RN) party to have Nicolás Monckeberg debate parliamentary seats with UDI member Rodrigo Alvarez.
Lavín, who is a former presidential candidate himself, stated that the RN has the right to compete, but “be careful, let’s do things the right way”.
“The trouble is that when it comes to public service, people tend to ask ´Where will I win?´ or ´Where am I most secure?´ , when the question should be ´Where can I make the greatest contribution?´” explained Lavín.
The politician continued by calling on the RN to rise to the opportunity and look at the electoral map to find out how they can make it so “the districts where we are doubled up and there are no Alianza candidates, are precisely where we put the best”.
