SANTIAGO.- Fernando González (ATP No. 298 in doubles) moved on to the second round of the Barcelona ATP tournament today after defeating Spanish duo Albert Montañés (No. 93) and Nicolás Almagro (No. 341), along with Argentine national Lucas Arnold (No. 41).
González and Arnold triumphed over the Spanish pair, who competed as locals in Conde de Godó, with a score of 6-3 and 6-3. The Argentine player has mainly been dedicated to participating in doubles matches for quite some time, leaving behind the singles circuit, where he is currently positioned at No. 1,270.
During the second round, the South American team will face a Polish duo comprised of Mariusz Frystenberg (No. 13) and Marcin Matkowski (No. 12), who currently lead the sixth series of the tournament.
Tomorrow, González (No. 14 in singles) will debut in the individual matches of the tournament against Argentine José Acasuso (No. 45).
