SANTIAGO.– Although he was sure to make it clear that he has no intentions to argue with Minister of Defense Francisco Vidal, Minister of Interior Edmundo Pérez Yoma harshly criticized the statements made by the official, who said that assignments in the Executive Branch are "always for political reasons".
"In all coalition governments, obviously it is necessary to find a way for all of the parties in the coalition to have a voice. But to go from there and say that the parties themselves appoint the people, is absolutely crazy to me", posed the Head of the Cabinet.
Nevertheless, Pérez Yoma admitted that the positions in the closest proximity and confidence of the President, and those in which it is necessary to include members of the opposition, are defined with a "criteria of equilibrium".
When asked if, in his opinion, the ex government spokesperson was mistaken in his declarations, the head of interior stated that "he has a particular style of confronting these things, you all know better than I, and I believe that what Minister Vidal attempted to describe was what happened in the period in which he held the position. Things have changed substantially since 2005".
