SANTIAGO.- After being absolved by the Oral Tribunal of Viña del Mar of the charges that had been presented by the Public Ministry for more than three years, Deputy Amelia Herrera Silva (RN) will resume her legislative duties tomorrow.
Herrera had been charged with fraudulently obtaining funds from companies in debt with the Municipality of Quilpué to finance a magazine used during her political campaign in 2004, when she was the mayor of the aforementioned city.
Nevertheless, the Viña del Mar court established that "it was not proven that the former mayor and current Deputy Amelia Herrera committed a crime".
With the ruling, the deputy will be able to resume her duties, with full authorization, tomorrow, April 28th, when sessions reconvene at the Chamber of Deputies following the district week.
"I would like to whole-heartedly and very sincerely express my appreciation for the unconditional support received from each of my electors during the four years that I was unfairly and brutally scorned, facing the most difficult days of my life and that of my family, with an array of unprecedented statements bent on destroying my career with accusations of things I never did", Herrera stated.
