SANTIAGO.- Military prosecutor Eduardo Musante questioned Willian Butto Yarur for over an hour this morning. 53 year-old Butto, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, is charged with shooting three police officers on Tuesday at his home in La Reina.
"The proceedings were successful. He cooperated with the questions he was asked by the court authorities and was informed of his arrest under the Quinta Fiscalía Militar de Santiago", Musante stated while leaving the interrogation, which took place in the Doctor Manuel Matus room of the Salvador Hospital.
While the attorney declined to comment on details of Butto's statement, Musante did say that the defendant gave a coherent version of events "the way he says they occurred".
Musante added that Butto said he felt under attack at the time the incident occurred and indicated that this may have been the reason for his reaction.
With regards to a resolution concerning how William Butto's case will proceed, the attorney said that the decision will be made by Sunday at the latest, but could be announced on Saturday depending on progress in the investigation.
