SANTIAGO.- Liliy Pérez, the general secretary for the National Renovation (RN) Party, energetically expressed her opinion today that Belisario Velasco's resignation is a "dignified gesture". Pérez asserted that Belisario Velasco found himself in a position of restricted authority with Francisco Vidal's arrival to the cabinet.
During an interview with Emol, Pérez stated: "Belisario Velasco is Francisco Vidal's first victim".
"I get the feeling that Velasco felt absolutely overtaken. When Vidal arrived, it was with an air of arrogance and he completely cornered the government's agenda, on all sides", she said.
Pérez also deemed the Minister of Interior's resignation a loss, affirming that she never agreed with the criticism emitted from her party against the former Secretary of State. Nor, she indicated, did she agree with the publicly presented requests for Velasco's resignation.
According to Pérez, Velasco's dismissal proves as evidence that "the left is completely dominating the cabinet and President Bachelet's government".
