SANTIAGO.- The Investigation Commission for Chilean State Railways (EFE) has decided to summon ex President Ricardo Lagos in order to hear his version of the events surrounding financial irregularities revealed within the organization.
After taking part in a commission session that analyzed the written statement that had been sent by the ex President, National Renovation (RN) representative Nicolás Monckeberg stated that "we want this carnival of irresponsibility to end".
Monckeberg mentioned that the ex President had only sent "a letter containing 9 paragraphs, 8 of which speak about the history of railways and only one that vaguely addresses his administration".
Concerning the summoning of the ex President, Monckeberg stated that "President Lagos is not above the law, he is a Chilean citizen who needs to be accountable for his actions, and that is why we have asked him to come to the Chamber now and account for his actions just as any other Chilean would do".
