SANTIAGO.- Volodia Teitelboim's health condition has neither improved nor worsened, but the writer is now unresponsive to stimuli. Teitelboim has been under the care of the Universidad Católica Clinical Hospital since being admitted on January 15th for pneumonitis (an inflammation of the lungs), which led to subsequent kidney problems.
According to the facility's most recent medical report, the condition of the 91 year-old former communist leader has not changed, although he now shows no response to any kind of stimuli.
Doctor Francisco Javier Larrondo, chief of the medical center's Intensive Care Unit, states that the writer is in a "stable" condition from a respiratory viewpoint, but remains in serious condition with respect to his kidneys.
Teitelboim is currently in a state of sopor, or deep sleep, which he entered into yesterday after seeing his daughter, Marina. In his current state, Larrondo has indicated that it is unlikely that he is aware of the visits he has received.
