Report on Valparaíso fire to be ready in two weeks

Public Attorney Pablo Avendaño has indicated that necessary investigations will continue to clarify the cause of the disastrous fire that affected La Cruz hill in Valparaiso.

SANTIAGO. - A report to determine the cause of the fire reported on January 12th of this year is scheduled to be ready in approximately two weeks.  The blaze destroyed dozens of homes on La Cruz hill and left two people dead.


This was the indication given by Valparaíso Public Attorney Pablo Avendaño, who reconstructed the events of last Wednesday along with the two adolescents accused of starting the flames after lighting a campfire.


The Valparaíso Homicide Department, as well as the Santiago Crime Lab, also participated in the investigation procedures.


“Both law enforcement sectors began working in the days following the fire, we are going to continue investigating until we have performed all of the necessary procedures at the scene of the disaster”, stated Avendaño.


According to Radio Cooperativa, the adolescents charged with starting the fire could receive a prison sentence of up to 10 years if found guilty.
