SANTIAGO. – According to the Justice department, the Supreme Court maintained the sentence of 541 days of incarceration given to Eduardo D´Hainaut García and Eduardo López Mezquita. The two are accused of fraud in contempt of court in the investigation of the Letter V File in the case now known as MOP (Ministry of Public Works)-Gate.

Unanimously, the summer session of the high court declared the appeal for annulment presented by D´Hainaut´s defense attorney, in both form and content, to be inadmissible. The appeal was made in response to the ruling of the sixth Court of Appeals of Santiago, which, on December 4th of last year, condemned the two defendants of the aforementioned crimes in the proceeding also known as MOP-Prograf.

Judges Nibaldo Segura, Adalis Oyarzún, Patricio Valdés, Héctor Carreño and Pedro Pierry determined that the appeal did not comply with the legal requirements necessary to justify a new hearing, and rejected it without further analysis.
