SANTIAGO.-  Government Secretary General Francisco Vidal stated this morning that “it is not necessary” for President Michelle Bachelet to make her support for the head of Education, Yasna Provoste, public.  Doubt has arisen, fueled by the President’s elusion of publicly showing support for Provoste after a report released detected irregularities in subsidy payments.

“When does a minister lose support?  When he or she is called and asked to resign, it is that simple”, Vidal emphatically declared.

The spokesperson for the government also asserted that “all 22 ministers who currently make up the cabinet have the President’s support”, and added that “on the day that any of them, beginning with myself, or any of the other 21 ministers lack support, I am going to go down there (to the Government Secretariat Office) and I am going to tell them that I quit”.
