SANTÏAGO. - The Secretary General, Francisco Vidal, claims to be convinced that if the constitutional charges against Minister of Education Yasna Provoste are debated in Parliament, “as they should be”, the minister will prevail.
“The government hopes that the charges are handled by the judicial system, as they should be, in accordance with the Constitution. If the charges are handled legally, Provoste will win; if the argument is purely political, she is out of luck”, said Vidal.
After attending a meeting held by the Political Committee, Vidal maintained that the charges being presented by the opposition “have no basis”. The meeting, presided upon by President Michelle Bachelet, continued almost two and a half hours beyond schedule.
Vidal also stated that, in his opinion, this case should not be referred to as “political femicide” and that if Minister Provoste has deemed it as such, “it is her subjective perspective in this moment that she is going through, and I respect it”.
