SANTIAGO. - President Michelle Bachelet gave a solid, stern speech today celebrating her term’s two-year anniversary as well as the 18th anniversary of the country’s return to democracy. The President spoke out emphatically against the opposition’s accusations of financial irregularities.
“Chile has made progress in every way over the last 18 years, which is why it never ceases to surprise me that some people insist upon creating an impression that the country is being eroded by financial irregularities. It is one way to maneuver small-scale politics to gain votes, but it also hurts Chile, the country’s national and international image, as well as its perspective”, she declared.
While in front of an audience that included Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, as well as hundreds of supporters gathered in the Los Naranjos Patio at La Moneda Governmental Palace, Bachelet stated, “I want to clearly convey to you that Chile is a decent country, it has solid foundations of moral government and we are not the only ones who say that (...) international rankings confirm this”.
