SANTIAGO. - Eugenio Tuma (PPD), the president of the commission chosen to evaluate the constitutional charges against Minister of Education Yasna Provoste, stated today that the investigative team will carry out its task in an objective and legally informed fashion.
The deputy explained to Emol that, despite the fact that all of the commission’s members belong to the Concertación, it does not mean that they “are not obligated to work in a very painstaking, very objective and very legally informed fashion”. “This is a legal and technical report, not a political one”, he asserted.
Tuma added that the fact that all of the commission members are from the Concertación does not “mean that a ruling favorable to the minister should be expected, it means that we are obligated to carry out our task with much more precision”.
The PPD deputy also pointed out that, ultimately, the investigative commission will not yield the final decision, rather the majority of the Members of Parliament will be the ones to decide whether they accept or deny the charges.
