SANTIAGO. -  The attorney representing Ramón Córdova Olave has denied that his client is the ring leader.  Córdova was detained yesterday and is suspected of firing gunshots at police in Quilicura and killing one of the officers.

“We’re not talking about the leader of a mafia”, said Fernando Inzunza.  The attorney added that “before all of these incidents, (Córdova) was a person who was like any other worker or businessman, like any normal person”.

Nevertheless, Inzunza declined to speak about whether his client was responsible for the death of one of the police officers.

When questioned about why Córdova had fled from police for so long, Inzunza said that he “was scared to fall into the hands of the OS-9” and indicated that, according to Córdova, “OS-9 officers had beaten him once after he was arrested by investigators”.

The attorney also claimed that the police had gone “overboard” trying to question his client’s friends and family, maintaining that they had no idea that Córdova may have been involved in criminal activities.
